What does a diamond actually cost in Canada in 2026? Ask five jewellers and you will get five polite silences. So we took a different route: we pulled the listed prices of several brands, from the most direct to the most prestigious, for roughly the same stone. The gap does not come from the diamond.
Start with the number the market prefers not to say out loud. A loose 1-carat lab-grown diamond now starts at about $700 CAD in Canada. Everything added after that - the setting, yes, but mostly the brand - is why the same light sometimes costs three times as much.

Two different "1 carat" figures on this page
- Loose stone: one 1 ct diamond with no setting. From about $700 CAD.
- Studs: a pair with 1 ct total weight (about 0.5 ct per ear), set in solid gold. $740 CAD at Carat Theory.
These are different purchases. A pair of half-carat stones set in gold is not the same as one loose 1 ct stone, so compare loose stones with loose stones and pairs with pairs.
The stone itself: where the real number starts
Before comparing brands, set the baseline. Lab-grown prices fell sharply from 2020, then stabilised in late 2025. Today, a good 1-carat stone (G colour, VS2 clarity, Excellent cut) sits around $900 to $1,300 CAD loose - and starts near $700 for more modest clarity. The same stone mined? Several times that.

The same stone, four prices
Take the most comparable category there is: diamond stud earrings, 1 carat total (0.5 ct per ear), in solid gold. Here is what brands list mid-2026, from the most direct online sellers to the big international houses.

With rings, the same pattern widens. A loose stone plus a simple setting often lands at $1,300 to $1,800 CAD in Canada; a 1-carat solitaire at a premium brand with a stated emissions position can start much higher. The stone at the centre may be comparable. What changes is everything built around it. When we compare two product listings side by side, we check the IGI report number first, then the stated colour and clarity - the listed price comes last, not first.
You almost never pay for the diamond. You pay for the retail chain, the maintained scarcity, or the story laid around the stone.
The emissions-position premium
Some premium houses make a cleaner-origin or emissions-position argument. That can matter to a buyer, but the claim needs to be checked against the brand's own methodology, energy source, offsets, cutting location, shipping, and finished-jewellery production.
Paying for impact can be a reasonable choice. The point is to know whether the premium is funding a documented operational difference, a marketing position, or both.

A price study that hid its own numbers would not be worth much. So here are ours, as they stand, across our full collection of lab-grown diamond jewellery in solid 14k gold, where every diamond over 0.50 carat carries its own individual IGI report and smaller accent diamonds are certified together at the jewellery level:
- Piece prices: from $380 to $2,700 CAD, median about $1,165.
- Studs and climbers: $380 to $1,510, median about $990.
- Hoops: $510 to $2,700.
- Pendants: $1,070 to $2,100.
- Bracelets: $2,050 and $2,160.
- Just over a third of the collection is under $1,000.

Frequently asked
Why does the same stone carry such different prices?
Because you are not paying for the stone but for the brand's model: retail chain, storefronts, positioning, story. The diamond itself comes out of the same quality categories and costs roughly the same to produce.
Are $832 studs lower quality than $1,300 studs?
Not necessarily - that is the whole point. Check three things instead of the price tag: the IGI certificate, the stated colour and clarity, and the gold (solid, not plated). At equal specifications, the price gap is invisible on the ear.
Is the emissions-position premium worth it?
Sometimes, if the brand documents its methodology clearly and the premium matches your values. Check whether the claim covers growing, cutting, setting, shipping, offsets, or only part of the process.
